esSO: Mary questioned how cold it will be in Shanghai today. She was in Bejing when she was there. According to the internet, it'll be in the low 70s daytime and 50s at night this week so I'm guessing cool weather dress. She did say that the government doesn't allow them to turn heat on in offices and public buildings until November 15th, though she thought the hotel would have heat. She also recommended the lemon chicken, hot pots and a dessert I've forgotten the name of, but again I'm questioning if we'll find the same things. I know the foods vary by region. She also told me where I could get currency so I may try that so we'll have a little when we arrive.

Thanks for the pictures MvdH. I've got a guide book that I have been reading and also about.com's China Travel site -- the author is from Mt. Pulaski and lives in Shanghai. A friend who was in China a couple of years ago has also given me tips about packing warm clothes.

Shanghai is very beautiful, I very much enjoyed the old European part of the city. I remember we had an architectural guidebook for that part of the city, that was very helpful. If you want a preview take a look at pictures 88 - 215, those were all taken in Shanghai.
